What is K-Electric and which areas does it supply?
K-Electric is Pakistan's only vertically integrated private power utility, generating, transmitting and distributing electricity to Karachi — the country's largest city and financial capital — with over 3.4 million consumers. K-Electric runs its own billing portal, separate from PITC.
K-Electric is the only privatised, vertically integrated electricity utility in Pakistan. It generates, transmits and distributes under a single licence across Karachi and adjoining parts of the Sindh and Balochistan coast, serving a city that is simultaneously the country's largest, its financial centre and its biggest industrial concentration.
That integration changes what the company is accountable for. The other eleven companies can attribute supply shortfalls to central purchase and the transmission network; K-Electric owns the whole chain, so generation outages, transmission constraints and distribution faults all land with the same organisation — which is part of why it draws the scrutiny it does.
Because of that structure, NEPRA assesses K-Electric against a separately determined target rather than the benchmarks applied to the other companies, and revised those targets during the year following a review. It also accounts for roughly a quarter of all consumer complaints recorded nationally — which the regulator reads as more complete record-keeping rather than as worse service, given how implausibly low some other companies' figures are.
Which number you need
K-Electric identifies your connection by one number only: the 14-digit reference number printed at the top of the bill. There is no shorter customer or consumer ID that will work in its place — that facility exists at LESCO alone — so the printed reference number is the one to keep.
K-Electric references begin with . Those leading digits are the billing batch, and they are what lets this site work out the company from the number alone, with no dropdown to choose from.
K-Electric sits entirely outside the shared government billing system, because it generates, transmits and distributes under a single licence rather than being a distribution-only company. A K-Electric number will not work on any DISCO portal, and vice versa.

How was K-Electric formed?
K-Electric traces its roots to 1913, when it was founded as the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation — making it Pakistan's oldest continuously operating utility, predating the country itself. It passed through various forms of state and private ownership during the twentieth century before being privatised in 2005, when a private consortium acquired majority shares from the Government of Pakistan. Unlike the WAPDA-descended companies, it is vertically integrated: the same company generates, transmits and distributes across its whole territory rather than buying power from the national grid.

Recovery above 100% reflects payments received against earlier arrears on top of the year's own billing, not overcharging. Sector-wide, distribution companies lost Rs 132 billion in FY 2024-25.
K-Electric is measured against its own separately determined target rather than the XWDISCO benchmarks, since it generates, transmits and distributes within a single licence. Its reported losses sit just above that target. Recovery is weaker than the Punjab companies', and NEPRA notes that K-Electric accounts for roughly a quarter of all consumer complaints recorded nationally — which the regulator reads as more complete record-keeping rather than worse service.
Report a meter or billing problem
Complaints for K-Electric — and every other PITC company — are filed through one shared system, CCMS. You can find your account by reference number, contact number or CNIC.
The form asks for your name, mobile in 923xxxxxxxxx format, CNIC, address and a nearby landmark, plus the nature and type of the complaint. Keep the complaint number it gives you — every later stage of escalation depends on it.
Do not pay scammers. No distribution company asks for payment over the phone, for an OTP, or for money into a personal account. A call demanding immediate payment to avoid disconnection is the most common form of this fraud. Always pay through a bank, ATM or authorised wallet.
