SSGC traces its origins to 1954, just two years after the landmark 1952 discovery of the Sui gas field in Balochistan — one of the largest gas fields in the world at the time of its discovery — which the company was originally formed to develop and pipe toward Karachi. It was reorganized into its current form, Sui Southern Gas Company, in 1989, and today operates as the designated gas utility for the southern half of the country, geographically closer to the original Sui field than its northern counterpart.

SSGC's network is anchored close to the original Sui field and Karachi's large industrial and CNG-station demand, alongside LNG import terminals on the Karachi coast that feed re-gasified gas directly into the southern transmission grid. Karachi's dense, older housing stock combined with a coastal, humid climate creates distinct maintenance challenges for underground distribution pipes compared to SNGPL's more inland network, and SSGC has run periodic pipeline replacement programmes in older parts of the city for this reason.

Like SNGPL, SSGC's forward plans focus heavily on reducing Unaccounted-for Gas through leak detection and theft prevention — a particularly acute issue in Karachi's dense informal settlements — alongside continued integration of imported RLNG to offset the decline of Sindh's mature domestic gas fields. SSGC has also expanded prepaid and digital metering pilots in parts of its territory as one route to reducing billing disputes.

Complaints for SSGC — and every other PITC company — are filed through one shared system, CCMS. You can find your account by reference number, contact number or CNIC.
The form asks for your name, mobile in 923xxxxxxxxx format, CNIC, address and a nearby landmark, plus the nature and type of the complaint. Keep the complaint number it gives you — every later stage of escalation depends on it.

How do I check my SSGC bill online?

What is this number called on a SSGC bill?
SSGC calls it the Customer Number. This matters because the same field is called a Reference Number on an electricity bill, and the two gas companies use different words for it — SNGPL calls it a Consumer Number. It is printed near the top of your bill.
Which areas does SSGC supply?

Why does gas pressure drop in winter?
Heating and geyser use rise across the whole network at the same time in winter, so pressure falls during peak morning and evening hours. This is a network-wide load pattern rather than a fault on your connection, and it does not change the units you are billed for. SSGC's network sits closer to the original Sui field and the LNG terminals on the Karachi coast, but domestic winter demand still affects pressure.
How do the slabs work on a SSGC bill?
Gas is billed in slabs, and the rates are set by OGRA rather than by SSGC. The important consequence is that crossing a slab threshold can move a large part of your consumption to the higher rate, so a small increase in usage can produce a disproportionate jump in the bill. GST on gas is charged at 18%.
