Electricity Bill Not Showing Online? What to Check
When a bill lookup returns nothing, the number is usually the problem. Six checks in order, from a dropped leading zero to a re-numbered meter.

The short answer
When a lookup returns nothing, the number is almost always the problem rather than the bill. Count the digits, strip out spaces and dashes, and make sure you are on the right system — K-Electric bills do not exist on PITC, and gas and water numbers mean nothing to an electricity portal. If the number is right, the remaining causes are timing: a new connection that has not been billed yet, a meter that was replaced and issued a new number, or an official portal that is busy.
Work through these in order
- 1
Count the digits
Electricity reference numbers are 14 digits. A 13-digit number is nearly always a reference that lost its leading zero when it was typed into a phone, a spreadsheet or a messaging app. Put the zero back and try again.
- 2
Remove spaces and dashes
Bills print the number in groups for readability. Enter the digits only — a grouped number is the single most common reason a correct number fails.
- 3
Check you have the right company
The first two digits identify the company. K-Electric runs its own billing outside PITC, so a Karachi number will never appear on the shared government system, and the reverse is also true.
- 4
Check it is an electricity number
An 11-digit SNGPL consumer number or a 10-digit SSGC customer number is a gas account. Each utility runs a completely separate system.
- 5
Think about recent changes
A meter replacement sometimes issues a new reference number, and the old one then stops working. A brand-new connection has nothing to show until its first billing cycle has completed, which can take several weeks.
- 6
Try again later
The official portals are government-run and slow down or drop out at month end, when everyone checks at once. That is a timing problem, not an account problem.
Which number each utility expects
| Utility | What it is called | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Electricity — 11 DISCOs | Reference Number | 14 digits |
| Electricity — K-Electric | Account Number | Own format, own portal |
| Gas — SNGPL | Consumer Number | 11 digits |
| Gas — SSGC | Customer Number | 10 digits |
| Water — WASA | Account Number | Varies by city |
If the number is right and the bill still will not appear
- 1
Confirm the current number with your company
Your sub-division office can look up the reference number tied to your address. Take your CNIC and, if you have it, an old bill or payment receipt.
- 2
Ask whether the connection was re-numbered
Mention any meter replacement, name change or reconnection. These are the events that most often issue a new number without anyone telling the consumer.
- 3
Use the company helpline
Every company's helpline is listed in one place on this site. Ask for a complaint number if the bill is overdue and has still not been generated — you are still liable for the bill whether or not it arrived.
A missing bill does not pause the due date
If your connection has been billed, the amount is owed by the due date whether or not the paper bill reached you or the lookup worked. Late payment surcharge still applies, so it is worth sorting out the number before the due date rather than after.
Questions
My number worked last month. Why not now?
The usual reasons are a meter replacement that issued a new reference number, or the portal being busy at month end. If it still fails a day later, confirm the current number with your sub-division office.
I have a new connection. When will the bill appear?
Only after the first billing cycle is complete. There is nothing to look up before then, and it can take several weeks after the meter is energised.
Why does my 13-digit number not work?
Reference numbers are 14 digits and many begin with zero. Phones, spreadsheets and chat apps often strip that zero. Add it back at the front.
Can I check a K-Electric bill on the PITC portal?
No. K-Electric bills live only on K-Electric's own system. This site recognises a K-Electric number and sends you there.
